Here Comes Aaron Carter is the seventh episode of the first season of Lizzie McGuire.

Summary[]

Lizzie and Miranda are thrilled to hear that singer Aaron Carter is coming to town for a video shoot. Now they just need to find a way to discover the location, crash the shoot, and meet Aaron.

Synopsis[]

Lizzie and Miranda are giddy when they discover that Aaron Carter is visiting their town to shoot a music video. Gordo agrees to help them deduce the location of the shoot, believing he can record a documentary. When their efforts to find the production fall flat, Matt reveals the location will be at RenMar Studios, and he blackmails the older kids into taking him with them.

Late that night, Sam arrives home after a meeting with a client and shows Jo the video passes to tomorrow's taping that he received from his client.

Unaware of the free passes, the kids sneak out at dawn and arrive at the studio, but the entrance is blocked by a security guard. Matt provides them with elf costumes. Their plan doesn't work, but an assistant director mistakes Matt for Aaron's stand-in, and ushers him into the studio.

When Sam pulls up to the studio, Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo use Sam's car as a distraction to sneak onto the lot. The guard chases them through the studio but they evade him, so the guard leaves a message on the McGuire answering machine. When Jo hears the message, she heads to the studio.

When she arrives, she assaults the security guard and is sent to the studio detention room. Meanwhile, Sam gets in trouble for partaking in the crew's buffet table, and is sent to join Jo in detention.

Still evading the guard, the kids end up in Aaron's dressing room, where they are confronted by Aaron's manager. The manager allows only one of them to meet Aaron, and they decide it should be Miranda. Later, Lizzie realizes she left her tape recorder in the dressing room, and when she returns to retrieve it, she meets Aaron, who kisses her.

The video director is impressed by Lizzie and Miranda's antics and offers them a spot in the video, with Gordo recording the entire production.

Trivia[]

  • The episode was filmed from January 20 - 23, 2001.
  • Clayton Snyder (Ethan Craft) is credited in this episode, but he does not appear.
  • Aaron Carter became a real-life friend of Hilary Duff as a result of working together on this episode. They dated on and off from 2000 to 2003. They remained friends, up until his death.
  • This episode won in the category "Lizzie McGuire's Best Adventure" in the viewer voting on the Disney Channel's broadcast of "A Raven New Year's Eve" on December 31, 2002.
  • RenMar Studios, the setting for this episode, is the actual studio where the series is filmed.
  • Aaron's manager is portrayed by actress Angela Oh, but he was actually managed by his mother, Jane Carter.
  • The security guard is eating something in every scene.
  • Mr. Lang is mentioned, but not seen. He is the faculty sponsor for the school web-zine.
  • Series executive producer Susan Estelle Jansen and episode writer Nina G. Bargiel appear in this episode as "record label executives."
  • Disney aired this episode substantially out of order, presumably as a synergistic move to promote their "Aaron Carter & Samantha Mumba in Concert" special. This led to several continuity problems. Lizzie mentions that Miranda is an excellent singer, but she doesn't discover that until Random Acts of Miranda. Miranda remembers that Matt was a super-genius when he showed up at their school for half a day, but that didn't happen until Lizzie's Nightmares. Since these refer to past events that were intended at the time to be past events, these are not true Goofs. If the episodes are watched in the order the producers intended, all is well.

Goofs[]

  • In the teaser, Lizzie has a glob of food on her right shoulder, but in the next shot, it's gone.
  • When Jo pulls up at the video shoot, she says to the guard, "I'm Jo McGuire, Lizzie's mom, I spoke to you on the phone," but she never did. She just listened to the machine, then left.
  • When Lizzie is dressed like an elf, her hair is in pigtails. Later after she, Miranda and Gordo get rid of the costumes, her hair is styled differently.
  • The director lets Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo onto the set so they can appear in Aaron Carter's video as stunt or dancing elves, but Lizzie and Miranda wear regular clothes in the video and Gordo does not appear at all.
  • In the teaser, Miranda notes that it is springtime, but on the set of the video, the security guards says, "Well it is Christmastime, so I guess it's okay."

Quotes[]

Animated Lizzie: Tomorrow I have a date with Destiny. What am I going to wear?

Sam: Basically, it's a television series about this dad and his wacky life. I call it Sam McGuire. What do you think?
Caterer: Sir, I'm a caterer.

Lizzie: We gotta give him something.
Miranda: What do we give him?
Gordo: Lava lamps make good gifts.

Sam (squealing): I can't believe it! I'm gonna meet Aaron Carter! ... I'm just practicing, so I'll fit in with the kids.

Video Director: You know those kids?
Matt: Never seen 'em in my life.
Video Director: Too bad. I could always use more stunt elves.
Matt: You know, now that I think about it, I taught them everything they know.

Sam: They're real persnickety about their donuts around here.

Pop Culture[]

Animated Lizzie appears in a takeoff of the vault heist in Mission: Impossible.[1]

The image of Miranda, Gordo and Lizzie sitting around the corner from the security guard is a nod to the three wise monkeys who "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil."[2]

Lizzie, Miranda, Gordo and Matt follow a crosswalk when they first arrive at the studio.

  • This is an homage to the cover of the Beatles album "Abbey Road."[3]

While waiting in the detention room, Jo bounces a baseball against the wall.

  • This is a riff on Steve McQueen in the 1963 World War II film The Great Escape. The scene is accompanied by the theme from the movie.[4]

Animated Lizzie: Just when I thought I was out, he pulls me back in.

  • This is a paraphrase of Michael Corleone's iconic line from the film Godfather III, where he says, "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."[5]

Gordo: Maybe in our next plan, we could pretend that we're elves who live in trees and bake cookies.

  • Keebler cookies ran commercials with animated elves who baked Keebler products "in a hollow tree."[6]

Animated Lizzie: That's gonna leave a mark.

  • This quote, normally attributed to Chris Farley in the 1995 movie Tommy Boy was actually originated by John Candy, in the 1987 Star Wars spoof, Spaceballs.[7]
